Jane's Addiction - mas influencia.
My band Pink Narcissus and I have always been the most dedicated Jane’s fans, especially the guitarist Paddy Longlegs and myself (Oli the singer). We both spent our teens and beyond worshiping at the shrine of JA, albeit in separate decades and counties.
Jane's was a religion and salvation to me as a teenager. By creating a subculture based around love, nature, art and dignity - Jane's Addiction united the freaks and outsiders through pride in that which sets us apart from the mainstream, our individuality. All four of them were virtuoso musicians and artists with their own tastes and perspectives, they were never afraid to express their feminine side but they also had balls and knew how to rock.
Along with the official albums and singles, I had all the films, live recordings, early demos and rare tracks before re-release on Kettle Whistle and Cabinet of Curiosities. When those collections came out I had to buy them as well, to hold the artwork in my hand and hear it all in the quality that could not be obtained on cheep British bootlegs.
Though I was too young to see the original line-up back in the day, I finally got to see Jane's when they reformed and played the UK around the millennium. They blew my mind as I knew they would.
Jane’s Addiction not only influenced and inspired me, they also opened the doors of my teenage mind to a plethora of other bands and influences which had in turn inspired them. From (as Perry famously said) Duke Ellington and Bad Brains to The Doors, Dylan, Led Zeppelin, Bauhaus, The Velvet Underground, Bowie, Iggy and The Stooges and a hundred more.
Allot of bands nowadays think it’s cool not to site their influences and instead keep people guessing to retain an air of mystery about them, but I think that’s unfair on the fans who desire to expand their musical knowledge further. With this in mind I proudly admit to the impact Jane’s had on me, my life, and my band.
We are a UK band from Brighton on the south coast named Pink Narcissus. We formed in 2009 and in that time have recorded a demo, an EP, and a mini album; “Block Your Ears / Shield Your Eyes” – as well as releasing a video for our single “Disinfectant” which can be seen on YouTube and gained 1000 views in the first day. Dave Jerden producer of the Nothing’s Shocking and Ritual albums said of our video – “I loved the video and the song, you guys rock!” – which was high praise indeed coming from him.
I think the whole band would agree that our biggest wish would be to support Jane’s Addiction for a UK date. We know that this is unlikely but in the event that a member of the band or someone closely associated with them should read this please check out our music at - www.reverbnation.com/pinknarcissus - with love and infinite respect to Jane’s, we will never forget you and the impact and influence your music has had and continues to have on our lives.
Jane's Addiction, que todavía tienen más influencia en nuestros hijos.
